Connolly Family Farm in Tuam, Co. Galway is preparing to sell a total of 72 in-calf suckler-bred heifers at Tuam Mart on Monday, October 23. Norman Connolly, the owner of the farm, mentioned that interested buyers can view the lots from 3:00 p.m. on the day of the sale, which will commence at 7:30 p.m. Among the 72 heifers up for sale, 58 are expected to calve in November or December, while the remaining 14 will calve in January. Nine of the available heifers are confirmed to be in calf to sexed semen bulls, namely Loyal (LM4184), An De Beauffaux (BB4438), and Ewedenvale Ivor (LM2014). Norman Connolly stated that the heifers being sold are of R+ and U+ grade, with a few E-grade heifers included. The weight of the heifers ranges from 700-800kg, and they are all naturally fed and not pushed. The age of the heifers at the time of calving will range from 28-36 months.
The sale offers a variety of heifers suitable for all suckler farmers, including roans, blues, black and red Limousins, as well as Simmental and cross-bred Charolais heifers. However, Norman Connolly noted that calving dates may vary by one to two weeks on either side of the indicated dates, and the sex of the calf is not guaranteed. Interested buyers can view the lots prior to the sale, and contact details for Norman Connolly can be found on the Haystack website.
All the heifers have been vaccinated and received parasite treatment, as well as an iodine pour-on and pre-calving lick buckets.
