TikTok Pledges to Empower Ireland’s Digital Education with Rethink Ireland Fund

Date:

TikTok, the popular video-sharing app, has announced a €750,000 investment in partnership with Rethink Ireland. The funds will be used to support nonprofit organizations that work towards building digital and creative skills for marginalized young people. The aim is to equip these individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-changing digital economy.

According to TikTok, education and training are essential in increasing opportunities and securing positive outcomes for young people. The company, along with Rethink Ireland, is committed to making a positive social contribution to communities in Ireland and making a meaningful difference in the lives of young individuals.

Rethink Ireland is known for its support of non-profit organizations working in communities across the country. To date, it has invested €34.2 million in education initiatives. In 2021 alone, their awardees helped 1,008 people achieve a QQI qualification, including 127 leaving certificates and 181 junior certificates.

In addition to the €750,000 investment, TikTok has pledged an additional €250,000 in advertising support for Rethink Ireland. This will further enhance the organization’s efforts in promoting digital and creative skills among young people.

Cormac Keenan, TikTok’s Head of Trust and Safety, expressed the company’s desire to support projects that offer inclusive economic opportunities. He stated, “We are extremely proud that The Digital Future Fund will work to enhance the lives of young people in Ireland who are unemployed, underemployed, or wish to upskill. In an ever-changing economic environment, equipping young people with digital skills of the future is critical to the prosperity of our society and economy.”

Áine Kerr, Chairwoman of Rethink Ireland, emphasized the urgent need for investment in education, particularly in light of the digital divide amplified by the pandemic. She stated, “We are delighted to partner with TikTok to create a Fund that focuses on closing that digital divide and preparing our young people for employment by empowering them with the skills they need to do so.”

This partnership between TikTok and Rethink Ireland highlights the importance of investing in the future of young people in Ireland. By equipping them with digital and creative skills, they will be better prepared to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape and contribute to the prosperity of society and the economy.
