iRadio, the Beloved Midlands Broadcaster, Gets Snapped Up by Newstalk’s Bauer!

Date:

Bauer Media, the owner of Newstalk and TodayFM, has announced its agreement to acquire iRadio, a popular youth-oriented music station that serves listeners in the North East, Midlands, and North West regions of Ireland. The acquisition is pending regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions. This move will expand Bauer Media’s total weekly radio reach to nearly 1.9 million listeners and signals their commitment to further growth in the Irish market.

iRadio was launched in 2008 and has since established itself as the leading music station in its broadcast region, delivering award-winning content across multiple platforms. With its extensive coverage in 15 counties across the West, North West, Midlands, and North East, iRadio has successfully kept its listeners informed and entertained throughout the years. The acquisition by Bauer Media Audio Ireland marks a new chapter for iRadio, with Chairman Willie O’Reilly expressing optimism about the station’s future.

Headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, Bauer Media entered the Irish market in 2021 through the acquisition of Communicorp from Denis O’Brien. Alongside Newstalk, TodayFM, and Spin, Bauer Media has also invested in audioXi, a digital advertising exchange. The addition of iRadio to their portfolio further solidifies Bauer Media’s presence in the Irish audio industry.

Chris Doyle, interim CEO of Bauer Media, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating that iRadio is a high-quality business that aligns with Bauer’s commitment to providing great content, music, and entertainment to its audiences. The integration of iRadio into the Bauer Media family will enable the station to offer even more of the engaging programming that its listeners love.

In conclusion, Bauer Media’s acquisition of iRadio is set to enhance the company’s radio reach in Ireland and strengthen its position as a leading player in the audio industry. With plans for further growth and the backing of a renowned media group, iRadio is poised for continued success as it embarks on this new chapter under Bauer Media Audio.
