Siobhán Talbot, the managing director of Glanbia, a leading nutrition company, has announced her retirement after a successful tenure of ten years. The company has revealed that Hugh McGuire, the current CEO of Glanbia Performance Nutrition division, will be taking over the role. McGuire, who has been with the company for two decades, will assume the position of CEO and join the Glanbia board as an executive director from January 1st.
This announcement comes at a time when Glanbia has raised its earnings outlook for the remainder of the year, projecting a growth rate between 12% and 15%. Despite a decline in revenue during the first six months of the year, the company remains optimistic about its future prospects.
Glanbia reported a revenue of $2.8 billion (€2.5 billion) in a recent trading update, a decrease from around $3 billion in the same period last year. However, the company’s overall earnings increased by almost 6%, reaching just under $200 million. This growth can be attributed to price increases across the performance nutrition arm of the company, which offset volume declines in the SlimFast weight management drink brands.
Siobhán Talbot commented on the positive performance, stating, “Our earnings momentum in the first half of 2023 was driven by a good performance in Glanbia Performance Nutrition as growth in revenue, earnings, and margin reflected a strong global performance for our flagship Optimum Nutrition brand.” The group’s interim dividend also saw a 10% increase, amounting to 14.22 cents per share. Additionally, the company returned €64.5 million to shareholders through share buybacks during this period.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Talbot expressed confidence in Glanbia’s prospects, saying, “As we look to the second half of the year, we believe that the combination of market opportunity and our strong operating capabilities set us up for sustained delivery of future growth.”
Siobhán Talbot’s retirement marks the end of a successful era for Glanbia, during which the company experienced significant growth and achieved impressive financial results. With Hugh McGuire taking the helm, Glanbia is well-positioned to continue its trajectory of success in the nutrition industry.
