Cork-based company Unispace Life Sciences, formerly known as Biopharma Engineering, has recently acquired Bulb, a laboratory and office fit-out specialist based in the UK, in a multi-million euro deal. Following the acquisition, Bulb will operate under the name ‘Unispace Life Sciences’ as part of the Unispace Group. This acquisition further strengthens Unispace’s presence in the life sciences sector in the UK and Ireland, and the company is expected to continue expanding over the next two years.
Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Reading, UK, Bulb specializes in designing and constructing working environments for the life sciences industry. Their services include the creation of R&D facilities, laboratory spaces, production facilities, and corporate offices. With a turnover of over £30 million last year, Bulb has worked with leading multinationals such as Kadans Science Partners and Advanced Research Clusters (ARC).
The acquisition of Bulb is the latest addition to Unispace’s growing portfolio, following the purchase of Biopharma Engineering, a Cork-based firm, in January 2022. John O’Reilly, the CEO of Unispace Life Sciences, expressed his excitement about welcoming Bulb to their expanding life sciences segment. He highlighted the strength of the life sciences sector in Ireland and the UK and emphasized the importance of providing high-quality facilities and working environments to attract top talent, foster innovation, and promote collaboration.
Derek Jones, the Managing Director of Bulb, also expressed his enthusiasm about joining Unispace, describing it as a “fast-growing” business. He looked forward to embarking on a new journey as part of Unispace Life Sciences. Mr. O’Reilly reiterated the alignment between the two companies and emphasized that the expanded team would be well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of clients in a rapidly changing market.
Unispace Life Sciences’ acquisition of Bulb marks another significant step in the company’s expansion plans. With a strong presence in the UK and Ireland, Unispace is well-positioned to capitalize on the opportunities in the thriving life sciences sector. As the company continues to grow, it aims to provide the necessary infrastructure and working environments to support the success and growth of biopharma companies in the region.
The acquisition of Bulb not only expands Unispace’s capabilities in laboratory and office fit-outs but also strengthens its position as a leading player in the life sciences industry. With a track record of delivering high-quality projects and a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of clients, Unispace Life Sciences is poised for further success in the coming years.
