Gardaí, along with the Armed Support Unit, conducted a successful operation last night, resulting in the arrest of a man who was reportedly in possession of a firearm. The incident took place on a train near Templemore Train Station in Co Tipperary at approximately 6.50pm yesterday evening. It is believed that the train involved was the Dublin to Cork service.
According to a garda spokesperson, reports had indicated that a male individual was seen on the train with a firearm. Local uniformed and plainclothes gardaí promptly responded to the scene, with assistance from the Regional Armed Support Unit. Upon identifying the male suspect, he was subjected to a search by the gardaí, who subsequently discovered what is believed to be an imitation firearm. The item has been seized for a technical examination.
The arrested individual is a man in his 20s. He was taken into custody at the scene and is currently being held at a Garda Station in Tipperary under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident, and the train was able to resume its journey shortly afterwards.
As of now, investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
