Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Tinahely Show, set to take place on Monday, August 7. This year’s show boasts a vast array of cattle and sheep classes, with 56 sheep classes and 65 cattle classes scheduled to take place. The sheep classes include breeds such as the Wicklow Cheviot, Jacob, Charollais, Valais Blacknose, Valais Blacknose Society, Lleyn, Texel sheep, Zwartbles, Suffolk, crossbred and commercial classes. Meanwhile, the cattle classes include Holstein Friesian, Shorthorn, Aubrac, Simmental, Limousin, Charolais, Angus, Belgian Blue, sponsored by FBD, Hereford, Parthenaise, commercial cattle and the Zurich Insurance PLC commercial championship.
Despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, last year’s Tinahely Show was the biggest yet, with over 20,000 visitors in attendance. Joe Hayden, PRO of the show, believes that Covid-19 presented an opportunity for people to “reset” their priorities, with events like the Tinahely Show becoming a “must go to” for many. The requests for trade stand and exhibition spaces for the 2023 show are already pouring in, with companies and organisations eager to showcase their services and products to the thousands of visitors expected to attend.
The Chairman of the show, Thomas McDonald, emphasised the importance of maintaining the values of the agricultural event while also incorporating a full day’s entertainment for all the family. Agricultural shows such as the Tinahely Show are a great way to celebrate the richness of rural Ireland, its people and their traditions, while also telling the story of sustainable Irish farming and food. With over 400 companies and organisations expected to attend this year’s show, it is clear that the event has significant commercial potential.
Tinahely Show is fortunate to own its own fully serviced permanent show grounds, which has allowed the show to grow to be one of Ireland’s largest. With over 80 years of show experience behind it, the community of Tinahely and its surrounds are eagerly anticipating a fantastic event in 2023. In addition to the vast array of livestock and indoor classes, there will be a great musical line-up featuring country music star Derek Ryan, sure to bring out all the music fans. The return of the ‘best of Wicklow exhibition’ promises to be a great showcase of all that is great about Co. Wicklow, made possible with the support of Wicklow County Council.
