Medical Manufacturing Technologies (MMT), a US-based company, has acquired Somex Automation, a Cork-based automation firm that specializes in custom automation equipment and processes for the medical device manufacturing industry. The acquisition was made for an undisclosed amount. The 34 employees of Somex Automation will continue to work out of their current facilities, and the Somex product offering will go to market under the MMT Automation brand. Michael Wall, the managing director of Somex Automation, will join MMT as technical director.
MMT is headquartered in North Carolina and serves the medical device manufacturing industry through development, applications, equipment, technical solutions, and aftermarket support. The acquisition of Somex Automation will enable MMT to grow its bespoke automation and integration solutions offered to medical device manufacturers across the globe. The strengths of both companies will be leveraged to create an even more powerful offering for customers.
According to Michael Wall, “This transaction allows us to grow the bespoke automation and integration solutions offered to medical device manufacturers across the globe. We will be able to leverage the strengths of both companies and create an even more powerful offering for our customers.”

In recent days, MMT also announced the acquisition of Ward Automation Galway, which provides automation services for the medical device, pharmaceutical, and high-end manufacturing industries. The acquisition of both Somex Automation and Ward Automation Galway will enable MMT to expand its offerings and better serve customers in the medical device manufacturing industry.
