A woman has recently showcased her garden transformation on TikTok, revealing that she was able to achieve the ultimate glow-up on a budget. The DIY enthusiast shared that her 1930s garden was filled with old shrubs, which a tree surgeon advised her to remove. After removing the shrubs, she realized that the fence behind them wasn’t to her taste, so she decided to make her own.
Documenting the process on TikTok under the username @firststepontheladder, the homeowner shared how she made her very own slatted fence. She revealed that they didn’t have the money to buy a new fence, so they bought some roofing battens instead. Using a 10mm spacer to get the look they wanted, they continued it along the entire fence.
To increase the height of the fence as a planning condition, they removed the other fence and added the battens on either side. The DIY enthusiast also shared that they used the off-cuts in the play area and made planters, a bench, and an outdoor kitchen out of them too. She encouraged her followers to have a go at something they didn’t think they could do.
The woman gave her followers a close-up look at her finished garden at the end of the clip, complete with a pergola, play area, and even a log burner. She later confirmed that it was all DIY apart from the patio and the raised beds. They did it in stages, but it only cost around £850 for the battens and posts. They bought all the wood from a local wood merchant as it worked out cheaper that way.
The clip has quickly gained traction on social media, amassing 60,700 views, 1,131 likes, 34 comments, and 160 shares. Social media users were left open-mouthed at the impressive garden makeover. Many were eager to reflect their awe in the comments, with one person saying, “Garden goals!” Another added, “Wow. Awesome,” while a third commented, “Love it.”
The DIY enthusiast’s garden transformation has proven that with a little creativity and resourcefulness, anyone can achieve a stunning outdoor space on a budget. Her story is a testament to the power of DIY and how it can transform not only a garden but also one’s perspective on what is possible.
