Carly, known as @homestyle_bycarly on TikTok, revealed how she transformed her traditional fence into a trendy slatted design with just £35. Carly used 95p trellis battens to cover her existing fence panels and attached them with a nail gun. She shared a step-by-step guide on TikTok, which gained more than 2.1 million views.
Carly, who has 10,500 followers on TikTok, regularly shares interior design ideas and DIY hacks. She said she spent too much time painting fences last year and vowed not to do it again. In her 30-second video, Carly showed her grey traditional-style overlap fence panels before switching to her new on-trend panels made up of thin wooden horizontal slats. She confirmed that she bought trellis battens from East Coast Fencing and used 37 of them to cover one six-foot fence panel. Carly added that she used treated trellis battens, which cost 95p per length (1.8m).
Carly’s tutorial received over 37,600 likes with fans impressed by her savvy idea. Many DIY enthusiasts praised her for adding more features to the garden on a budget. Some even added their own twist to the design by incorporating lights behind the panels. However, not everyone was convinced that the DIY solution would last. Carly acknowledged that it was a short-term solution, but she was thrilled with the end result.
