As summer approaches, many of us are giving our gardens a much-needed spruce up. But one woman from the UK has taken it a step further by painting her patio. Kayleigh, from @markay_ourjourney on TikTok, decided to give her patio a cheap makeover by painting it a slate grey colour with Santex paint. Her partner, Mark, wasn’t too thrilled about the idea, but the couple loved the final results.
The short video clip of Kayleigh painting the patio went viral on TikTok, with over 320k views. However, not everyone was impressed. Trolls claimed that the transformation wouldn’t last long and that the couple had made a huge mistake by painting it. One person wrote, “You will regret that,” while another commented, “Leave it a year and wait how bad it goes over winter.” A third person remarked, “Massive mistake, it will peel/crack, don’t care how good your paint it.”
Despite the negative comments, the couple loved their updated patio and revealed the final results in a separate clip. The grey paving stones matched perfectly with their grey and cream outside furniture and grey hot tub. Many people took to the comments section to praise the couple, with one person saying, “Looks amazing,” and another adding, “Looks beautiful and so relaxing.”
While some people may be skeptical about painting a patio, there are ways to ensure that the paint job lasts. Firstly, it’s important to choose the right type of paint. Look for a paint that is specifically designed for outdoor use and can withstand the elements. Secondly, prepare the surface properly by cleaning it thoroughly and allowing it to dry completely before painting.
