Grieving Donegal community prepares to bid farewell to the ‘beautiful and kind’ woman tragically struck by garda car

"Tragedy Strikes as Young Woman from Derry Passes Away in Buncrana Accident"

A young woman from the Galliagh area of Derry, Rebecca Browne, tragically lost her life in a car accident on Sunday morning. The 21-year-old had been returning from a night out with friends and was staying in Ludden, Buncrana, close to where the accident happened. Rebecca was the daughter of Jeremiah and Lynn, sister to Ethan, and granddaughter of Michael Browne, the late Jean Browne, Ray Smith, and the late Linda Wright. Her funeral mass will be held at St Joseph’s Church in Galliagh on Friday at 10am.

Rebecca was remembered by her family, friends, and colleagues as a kind and loving person. She worked at Sage Hair and Beauty on Spencer Road in Derry. Foyle Foodbank also paid tribute to her and shared a photo of her, extending their deepest sympathies to her family. Rebecca had collected donations for the charity before Christmas. A GoFundMe page was set up to help the Browne family with funeral costs and other expenses, which has raised close to £7,000 to date.

The community in Galliagh was left devastated by Rebecca’s sudden loss. SDLP councillor Brian Tierney, who is from the area, expressed his condolences and said that Rebecca was a lovely young woman who was outgoing and popular. He visited the Browne family to offer his support and let them know that the community was thinking of them during this difficult time. The tragedy has touched the entire community, and they will rally around the family in the weeks and months ahead.

It is always heartbreaking to lose a young life, and Rebecca’s passing has left her family and friends with a deep sense of loss. However, the outpouring of support and love from the community has been a source of comfort for them during this difficult time. The memories of Rebecca’s kindness and warmth will live on, and she will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
