He suggested poking three small holes in the bottom of the bottle, before burying it up to the neck next to the plants that need watering. This way, the water will go straight to the roots where it is needed most. Joe also advised putting the lid back on the bottle to prevent mosquitoes.

The water will drain out faster if the soil is dry and slower if the soil is already saturated.
