Kenny Jacobs, the newly-appointed chief executive of the DAA (Dublin Airport Authority), is set to appear before a Joint Oireachtas Committee on Wednesday afternoon. In his statement, he is expected to call out the aviation regulator’s decision not to allow for the recruitment of up to 240 extra security staff that are needed by Dublin airport by 2026 as “unwise and inexplicable”.
The additional staff are necessary due to the increasing air traffic in and out of Ireland’s capital city. The DAA has argued that these new personnel are essential for maintaining safe operations at Dublin airport, given its expanding size and scope. To date, the aviation regulator has refused to budge on their stance, much to the chagrin of Mr. Jacobs and other members of the DAA.
