Employees Remain in Control of the Labour Market Amid Economic Uncertainty

Date:

While some sectors in the economy are struggling to find talent, a new survey from LinkedIn has revealed that employees remain in control of the labour market. The survey showed that almost 60% of respondents are considering changing jobs this year and many are optimistic about job opportunities despite economic uncertainty. Let’s take a closer look at how this is playing out in the job market.

The Survey Results

According to the survey, workers are taking action by being more intentional in their search for a new job. 57% said they were looking for a new job and 23% said they had already started searching. Of those surveyed, 41% said they were open to changing roles within their current company, indicating an eagerness to upskill and make use of existing experience as opposed to simply seeking out new employers. This could be seen as an indication that many professionals are looking for stability amidst economic uncertainty rather than jumping ship completely.

Many respondents also shared their optimism about the future of the job market, with 67% saying they felt hopeful about finding more suitable opportunities this year. When asked what was driving this sense of hope, 38% said learning new skills would help them find better employment while 31% said networking more actively had encouraged feelings of optimism.

The Need For Resilience

The survey findings reveal that Irish professionals remain confident in staying afloat amid economic difficulty. Many people have also taken steps towards recession-proofing their current roles by sharpening existing skills or learning something new – a clear sign that resilience is key to navigating challenging times in the job market. With many sectors still experiencing talent shortages, it appears that those who can demonstrate resilience and a willingness to adapt will be best placed when it comes to finding suitable employment opportunities this year.

The findings from this survey demonstrate how resilient Irish professionals are when it comes to navigating difficult times in the labour market. Despite high inflation and economic uncertainty, workers remain optimistic about their prospects for 2023 and many have taken steps towards recession-proofing their current roles by brushing up on existing skills or learning something completely new. It appears those who can demonstrate resilience and an eagerness to adapt will be best placed when it comes to finding suitable employment opportunities this year.
